Bookspeed celebrates 40 years of trading

Bookspeed at Top Drawer

Bookspeed will be marking its 40th anniversary at Top Drawer A/W26, which takes place at Olympia London from 13–15 September. The Edinburgh-based wholesaler was created in 1986 when founders Annie Rhodes and Kingsley Dawson identified a gap in the market for a next-day book distribution service.

Bookspeed curates and supplies book ranges for more than 2,500 retailers, representing a range of sectors including gift and lifestyle stores, heritage and visitor attractions, food and farm shops, and garden centres.

Today, the business has a team of around 70 employees, led by the founders’ son Lewis Dawson as CEO. Last year, Bookspeed boosted its capacity by expanding its warehouse facility by 50%.

Kingsley said: “It’s so hard to grasp that the fledgling Bookspeed that we nursed into being in 1986 is not only still with us, but operating from two warehouses in Leith with regular and long-standing customers all over the UK and beyond. From the very beginning, we wanted to offer our customers a distinct and reliable service. We wanted to get more books out into the world, and we are still doing that.”
