Mother-and-son founders Shashi and Sanjay Aggarwal of Spice Kitchen are set to take centre stage on the BBC’s reality TV series ‘Dragons’ Den’, pitching their family business to the Dragons in a bid to secure investment.
The appearance marks a major moment for the family-run brand, which has grown from conversations around the kitchen table into an internationally recognised brand, inspired by Shashi’s Indian heritage and lifelong passion for spices, recipes and bringing people together around food.
At the age of 76, Shashi is believed to be among the oldest entrepreneurs ever to appear on the programme. For the mother-and-son duo, the experience was about much more than business.
Shashi said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have had the opportunity to face this together. Whatever happens, it was a very special experience for our family and one we’ll always treasure.”
Sanjay added: “Standing as the lift doors opened alongside my mum is something I’ll never forget. Spice Kitchen has always been about mum, her knowledge and her phenomenal spice cookery. She has always shown me that it’s never too late to try something new, keep learning or take a leap of faith. I hope people watching at home see that too.”
Tune in to watch their Spice Kitchen journey on BBC One at 8pm on August 20, or catch up afterwards on BBC iPlayer.
