Spring & Autumn Fair’s campaign calling for a minimum of 90 minutes’ free parking in town and city centres across England has reached its first major milestone, securing more than 5,000 signatures on its Parliamentary petition.
The campaign, launched in response to findings from Spring & Autumn Fair’s Voices of Retail research, is continuing to build momentum across the retail community, with fashion designer and retailer Jeff Banks CBE becoming a champion for the campaign and lending his voice to the call for change.
Jeff said: “Our high streets are at their best when they’re busy, vibrant places where independent businesses can thrive and people actually want to spend time. If we’re serious about supporting local shops and the communities around them, we need to remove the barriers that make visiting the high street harder than it needs to be.
“Making 90 minutes’ free parking available would be a simple, practical step that could make a real difference to footfall and give people another reason to choose their local high street. Please support this campaign to back local businesses and bring shoppers back to the high street. Sign the petition now.”
With the petition open until January 23 2027, the campaign is now focused on building on the 5,000-signature milestone and encouraging more retailers, suppliers and consumers to add their support.
