Herdy lands global publishing deal with Quarto

British gifts, accessories, and homeware brand Herdy has secured a global publishing deal with Quarto. The agreement grants Quarto world rights to develop and publish a new programme of children’s books featuring the lovable Herdy character and his friends.

Created in the Lake District in 2007 by designers and co-founders Diane Hannah and Spencer Hannah, Herdy was inspired by the region’s distinctive Herdwick sheep that roam the Lakeland fells. The character is rooted in themes of friendship and fun.

From its quirky products to the charitable Herdy Fund, which supports the Lake District and its communities, Herdy is all about spreading joy and kindness, with a sprinkling of cheeky charm. These characteristics are values that sit at the heart of the new publishing programme.

Spencer Hannah said: “We have long held the ambition to partner with a global publisher. With a design language that is friendly, humorous, and rooted in nature, Herdy connects effortlessly with children across cultures. Working with Quarto opens up exciting opportunities for international distribution and allows us to bring Herdy stories to children all over the world.”

Peter Marley, associate group publishing director at Quarto, added: “Herdy’s mix of heart, humour, and design brilliance makes it a dream partner for children’s publishing. With its joyful personality and growing international fanbase, we see the potential to build a truly global character brand that resonates with children and families for years to come.”

The first releases of felt-flap board books, ‘Herdy’s Fun Day’ and ‘Goodnight, Herdy’, alongside a sticker activity book, ‘Out and About with Herdy’, are scheduled for publication in September 2026.
