Eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted Spice Kitchen co-founders Shashi and Sanjay Aggarwal on BBC One’s Dragons’ Den on August 20. And, as Home & Gift Association rightly points out, while the mother-and-son team may not have walked away with an investment, they left with something pretty special – the respect of all five Dragons. Thepanel agreed that Spice Kitchen had already built such a strong business that the pair might just be better off continuing what they’re doing without giving way a share of it.
The latest offering from the award-winning family business is A Story of Spice: a new feasting kit launching in late August for food lovers, keen cooks and thoughtful gift-givers.
Spices have travelled across continents for thousands of years, carrying stories of culture, trade, migration and empire. A Story of Spice explores some of these histories while celebrating the extraordinary flavours and food traditions shaped along the way.
The kit includes four small-batch spice blends: fragrant Za’atar, warming Sri Lankan Curry Powder, aromatic Ras el Hanout and comforting Speculaas. Recipients will discover 11 recipes, an illustrated map charting historic spice routes, and a booklet exploring everything from cultivation and cultural exchange to colonialism and the journey from farm to kitchen.
Designed to bring people together around the table, the kit encourages customers not only to cook and share delicious food, but also to look more closely at the ingredients many of us use every day – and the stories behind them.
