Siesta Crafts began in 1983 following a life-changing trip to Mexico. Inspired by the vibrant markets, traditional crafts and talented makers encountered along the way, the founders returned to the UK with a small collection of handcrafted clothing and gifts to sell at local boot fairs. These captured people’s imagination and laid the foundations for a business that continues to thrive today.
The early response was overwhelmingly positive. Demand grew, a miniscule retail outlet in Canterbury grew into a larger central outlet, buying trips became more frequent, and Siesta Crafts began to wholesale to other like-minded shops. Eventually Siesta Crafts grew into one of the UK’s best-known Fair Trade wholesalers.
Building long-term relationships has always been central to the Siesta Crafts’ story. Decades of travelling to the same countries and working with many of the same communities have created friendships that span generations. Today, supplier visits often feel as much like reunions as business trips, reflecting the trust and mutual respect that have developed over the years.
Siesta Crafts now imports directly from Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, India, Bali, Nepal, Ghana and Thailand. It offers gifts, clothing, musical instruments and handicrafts. As a proud and long-standing member of BAFTS Fair Trade Network UK, it remains committed to Fair Trade and sustainable business practices that support traditional skills.
Forty-plus years on, Siesta Crafts remains proudly family-run and as passionate as ever about sourcing new products. Look ahead, the company is excited to launch its A/W 2026 collection, featuring fresh designs and inspiring new additions from across the globe.
To focus on developing this range and supporting customers directly, the collection is being launched through its website, catalogue and online channels, with a 10% discount on all new lines until September 9.
